CAMPGROUP LLC

Dear Members

I wish to tell you about an opportunity available for younger sailors and board riders to work as instructors in the USA. I am the New Zealand representative for a company called Campgroup LLC.

Campgroup LLC operates eight prestigious summer camps in the North Eastern U.S.A. All are situated in rural areas, allowing campers to participate in outdoor activities, sports and hobbies. We have many positions available within our program for the upcoming U.S. summer season.

The job involves teaching Sailing and/or Windsurfing to children aged 7 – 15 years. The children are from high socio-economic areas (usually New York, Boston, Florida, etc) and, although very confident, usually only receive exposure to varied sports activities offered through attending camp each year. You would be teaching mostly beginners.

The camps are sports-based, 8 week sleep-away camps, and as such we require instructors to live in a bunk situation with a small group of children (along with a fellow instructor).

The 2002 season dates are 20 June through to 16 August. However, Campgroup offers the opportunity for staff to arrive earlier to take American Red Cross courses in any of the following: Lifesaving; Small Boat Handling; First Aid/CPR, and Sailing – all paid for by Campgroup. Some Camp Directors may require staff to hold some of these qualifications (or the New Zealand equivalent) depending on each Camp’s program.

The Visa offered by Campgroup is for 4 months. This gives the chance for 2 months’ sightseeing in North America either before or after the Camp session. We also have positions available in other sports areas, so if you are planning to travel with friends, I would be interested in talking with them also.

Campgroup guarantee you the best pay in the industry. Although each Camp runs independently (all with a different style and feel) we work together as one company and hire our own staff. The advantage to you is not only better pay, but the benefit of knowing and having a choice in the environment you will be entering, rather than being "offered" to a large number of varied camps.

I will be travelling around the country, interviewing in a number of main centres, early in the new year. Please feel free to phone or e-mail me at any time before then if you would like more information, or have any questions.

I look forward to hearing from any interested members soon.
