P Class Tanner Cup Trials.

By Tom Taylor

The P class trials for the Wellington representative to the Tanner Cup were held on Saturday and Sunday the 10th and 11th of November at Heretaunga Boating Club. There were twelve competitors including Aaron Hume-Merry, Adam Emirali, Rowan Swanson, Arran Whiteford, Josh Junior and Tom Taylor from Worser Bay.

The weather was a comfortable 15-18 knot northerly throughout the Regatta gusting to more in true Wellington style. Many sailors went out with reefs in and many had trouble at the wing mark. Aaron Hume-Merry managed to capsize in four of the six races, but with a series of quick recoveries managed to grab a string of second placings to finish second overall. Stuart Thomas of Evans Bay was third, Adam Emirali struggled in the heavy winds and was fourth and I was first, winning every race. Rowan finished a creditable 6th being the lightest skipper there. Arran Whiteford finished 11th only sailing on the last day. Josh went out for the very first race in a newly painted boat, which Dean had just finished putting together, and then decided to spend the rest of the weekend socialising on shore.

The Auckland and Otago Tanner Cup representatives are both girls so what happens if one wins as there is no cup for the first boy?
