ROWIE'S AUTUMN Series
 May 2001

Great to see so many boats this year. Reckon it builds every year, but we were lucky to have such a mild autumn which must have helped to keep up the enthusiasm. Also, the OK boys are "Hot On" at present training to go to a big contest in Sweden, so they need all the racing they can get.

We got all four races in over three Sundays, the last Sunday in May is the start of the Winter Series at Titahi Bay. Don't think I'll ever forget the last race which had the postponement flag flying until our "Great Gang" had the roof on the changing block. That was an exercise that had to be seen to be believed that nearly castrated Ross Walker, lost Andrew Paterson's cellphone, and made me even more afraid of power-woman Lynette who showed the boys how to do it and also produced a batch of scones while directing procedures.

Anyway, the last race got away once the last man (whoops, women, Penny was up there working away, too) came off the roof. I swear that wind increased a knot every minute we delayed the start and with the shark on everyone's minds made those of us who hit the water get our boats up quicker than usual. Don't we feel sorry for those that bent masts and other things but all I can say is that they have all winter to fix them. Big thanks to those who helped in the series, but feel sorry for Craig who could never get the pie numbers right. We never knew that yachties had such appetites, with esteemed people like Maurice even labelling his pie!

You could have blown me away with the generosity of the sponsors, eight in total, who supplied some great giveaways. What a way to end the season.
