75th Jubilee Members Trophy
There was a lot of interest last year in a trophy similar to the Jubilee Shield that has the then members names handwritten on it.
I have got a real nice photo of the club and had it enlarged and ready to frame. The idea is to have all the club member names personally handwritten on the surrounding frame. The outer wooden frame is wide enough to stick winner badges around it. At this time I have no idea what the thing could be awarded for but I am sure the we as a group would come up with some pretty good ideas. The cost will be paid from club funds. The next step in the process is to get the club member names on the surrounding card.

November 2001

Adult Learn-to-Sail Program
Phil Williams welcomes you .... 7/11/01
Whew !!
Ended up pretty windy on Saturday. Plenty good rides and a bit of scary stuff. No doubt about it the “rythmandswing” boys did a great job staying up straight with full spinnaker and all…. Won by miles. I went for the more conservative approach (survival - stay up straight and keep battling on) and only upped the kite in the last run to the finish to overtake one boat and claim a second place. Brent & Ed in their new boat “que sera” did well to sail with a few swims in the blustery conditions (certainly NOT the most capsizes for the day) and came in a bit early with excitement as usual all over their faces. Great guys ay!
This weekend is the usual ladder race and a general handicap. The balmy breezes of the week days have been calling for a good turnout on Saturday…. (easterlies are quite unusual here in Wellington)
Looking forward to seeing you guys. Come on down the club at about 1130 1145 ish and I will be pleased to sort out a boat for you to crew in.
If you want a bit of a catch up sail - like a re-learn, then we can organise that no sweat. If you email me back before Friday 5pm or ring me 021 620 316 I can get someone organised for you in advance.
Here’s to a jolly good weekend. J

Top of the Pops Night

WBBC 10 Nov 2001 The Lloyds 1.jpg (689466 bytes)
The Lloyds !

Lots of people obviously have had secret yearnings to be pop stars because there was no holding back on the costumes on Friday Night. Cindy Lauper and Rod Stewart rocked all night, are we really sure who Gene Simmons was - I can't believe that it was the person they told me it was......surely not that quiet, well mannered curly haired.....no....I don't believe it at all!
The Go Go Girls shimmered all night and were very Spicy at one stage, Ricky Martin had women tearing his clothes off, Marvin Gaye made a spectacular appearance with his Chardonnays and our all time favourites Abba were as bright as ever. Mick Jagger went home with Tina Turner and the Beach Boys were last seen surfing off into the horizon. Freddie Mercury was trying his luck with Dolly Parton but she was far to busy directing the show. Tim Finn and his Go Go Boys sank eventually - too much beer on board I think.

WIND FORECAST SITE
The Webmaster has been supporting the Wind.co.nz site which is in the Menu. This is an update on the development of that site.
First, I big thank you for partaking in the survey, I know that most people hate doing these online things so I am truly grateful for the effort and time you put in...thanks.
The good news is that with your support, and with the deal that I have secured with the Metservice, we will be coming back bigger, brighter and better.
With their support, Wind.co.nz will be able to utilise some of the amazing wind forecast models developed by Metservice for the Americas Cup racing.
This means that the forecasted wind information can be delivered more often and best of all, more accurate!

It also means that Wind.co.nz can have more wind sensors from around the country. We will be able to cover the entire Wellington region including the top of the South Island (e.g. Brother Islands) up to Castle point AND some of the greater Auckland/Northland region. This should give the site the coverage and support it needs to grow to be the best wind providing site around.
I am currently negotiating with the web developer on the structure of the site and finalising (still) how it will all bolt together....it has to be right but the delay means that the site may not be functioning until Xmas or just after.
I¹ll be in touch again soon with the next update.

Race 4: Worser Bay 1,2,3,5,6
Race 5: Worser Bay 1,2
Dean Stanley showed us all how to read the river, and Chinook 939 had a particularly good weekend too. Very strong currents and a narrow channel with light winds was different sailing environment from Worser Bay.
Country Yacht club regattas are very enjoyable. The Manuatu Marine Boating Club at Foxton Beach were very hospitable and friendly and were very pleased to see us. Sunburst Association Series Results

AGM: New Commodore!

Congratulations Heleen. We look forward to your leadership for the new season. And thanks to Phil Williams for a very successful reign last season.

WBBC Web page hits:
Our Web Page is Ranked 39th Boat Club Web page in the World of those using Hitbox to measure visits ~200. See proof at http://www.yep.com

Since the end of June to 29 September the site has had:
        1,345  different people visiting. (uniques)
of whom:
          191 visited  2-4 times
          103 visited  5-9 times
          97 visited 10-24 times.
36 Visited 25 or more times
Interpretation? You tell me! Email Webmaster. The 427 people who come back for another look are club members looking for the latest news? But only 29 visitors have gone beyond the first page.  464 people have "book marked" the site.  This is not bad given our nominal membership is ~200. We have had visitors from all over Europe, US,  Singapore and Australia. How do I know all this stuff? Go to Hitbox.com
