Burglar of the Bay
April 2001

Results

The competition is designed to have evenly matched teams and the winner is the last boat in the first placed team.

A fun competition, no doubt. Sailed in 10 to 15 knot South East winds on an unusual but enjoyable starboard hand course set by Rob, and TC.

There were three teams of four boats entered.

THE FELONS:

bullet1739 Good Times [Greg & Maurice]
bullet257 Shebang [Noel &…….]
bullet1661 Bouy Crazy []
bullet 336 Solubrious [TC and Ben]

THE THIEVES:

bullet1500 Top Gun [ Lynette & Kirsten]
bulletRhythmandswing [Nigel & SeaDog
bulletApricot Sox [Bob Shaw & Brent Eddie]
bullet1251 Wee Willie Winkie[Rob&Dave]

THE BURGLARS:

bullet1372 Lola [Julian & Catherine]
bullet1731 MiStress [Ken &Kate]
bullet1729Decibel [Greg & Darryl]
bullet1580 The Blonde [Rowie & Suzanne]

Rising crime figures resign us to finding two Burglars of the Bay this year.

The TWO guilty parties are

APRICOT SOX

(The Thieves) ) with 25 points
 ...
"If only we passed Lola with our spinnaker we would not have had to share the loot"
and
1372
LOLA
(The Burglars ) finishing also with 25 points

Imagine more laps on a shorter course with more boats and a team marker ribbon on each boat!!

Report recorded and concocted by the BUNTING WAVERS, TOOTERS AND PENCIL DROPPERS , Haley & Phil .

Blow by Blow

Start: Coming up to the start there was a muck up in the start procedure as the flag halyards got twisted and a new start sequence began. Bring back Al Murray.

The gun goes, Rythmandswing is already over the line but going backwards !!
interesting move !!!
She recrosses the line and the fleet is clear and away.

The start box relaxes ....
and picks up the pencil. .....
   Whew!

Wee Willie Winkie moves into the lead and the fleet is spread.
Clearing the end of the first lap it’s THE FELONS equal with THE THIEVES with 25 points each and THE BURGLARS only three points behind.

2nd Lap: In the next lap Mi Stress, Decibel moves up for the Burglars.
Shebang moves up three, but not enough to offset the team mates’ misfortune.

Rhythmandswing moves up two places to give THE THIEVES the edge at the end of lap two.
THE BURGLARS second and THE FELONS third.

3rd Lap: During the next lap Bouy Crazy (The Felons) moves up a place, as does the The Blonde to give THE BURGLARS team a single point margin at the bottom mark.

THE BURGLARS are only one point in front of THE FELONS!

Last Lap: The last lap it s all on for the rush to the finish.
Apricot Sox making sure they have at least a one in three chance of being the burglar, show no spinnaker and settle for 12th.
Lola is 11th.

Wee Willie Winkie is 1st  holding on to the most consistent placing.

Good Times shows speed in the sprint to the finish but alas too late.
Rythmandswing matches with a dash and the points gained are enough to draw even with the Burglars who have all defended their places in the last lap.

The Results: BURGLARS and the THIEVES finish first equal on 25 points and the FELONS just three back.
