HEBTRO Trophy 2001

What a fantastic day !

A BIG Thank-you !

..... to our sponsors, our celebrities, our boat owners, our junior sailors, the weatherman and all our helpers.

Being "part of it" is the whole point of Hebtro .... but for the record, here are the results and all the participants.

Hebtro Results . Includes Sponsors, Celebrities, Juniors and Boats.

We will quietly forget the results of the "Super Duper Sunburst Skiff Championship" sailed on the same day!. But we cannot forget the race commentary. This was another amazing event that proves that sailing race commentary in New Zealand is not longer dominated by Pete Montgomery. Brett Linton and Steve Hogg are the new motor mouths  (sorry voices) of sailing. Not to be missed!

Be sure to be back next year.

Remember .... the worser the bay the better the sailing !

The Hebtro Trophy is the Club's major fund raiser. Normally held on a Sunday in March each year.

The event raises money for our children's learn to sail and development programmes. The event is World Famous in New Zealand and has been supported by the names in yachting; Craig Monk, Russell Coutts, Chris Dickson, Jan Shearer, Murray Jones, Simon Daubney, Roy Dickson, - the day is Huge.

Our special guest this year was Cameron Appleton, a Team NZ  skipper and former national Sunburst champion.

About twenty "big" keel boats come round from "Port Nic YC" and our media personalities, celebrity guests and sponsors along with our junior sailors go aboard to race around the bouys in Worser Bay. Regulars are Swampy Marsh, Grant Walker, Alison Bell, Shaun Plunket ... the list goes on.

It is a great sight. Then everyone comes ashore for a barbecue on the deck of the club.

It has traditionally been supported by Heineken and by a number of hostelries from around the area and particularly the Grand Hotel in Courtney Place. In addition local businesses provide individual sponsorship giving them associated naming rights for the day and a chance to rub shoulders with the famous.

This is a marvellous way to support a good cause, get maximum exposure for your organization and have an excellent day in the process. Contact Nigel Lloyd for further details.
