This site will be the essential coaching reference
for Wellington youth sailors of P Class, Starlings, Lasers, 420s, E6s. Each
class has a program of core and club based coaching leading up to NI
and National Champs. A must read!
The program starts on
9th September 2004 with "Goal Setting"

21 August: Aaron Hume-Merry wins in Canada.
Aaron Hume Merry has
won the Canadian Olympic Regatta Kingston "CORK 2004" OSA Youthfest
Laser Championship at the CORK
OSA Youthfest in Kingston , Ontario, Canada. Aaron
won all 3 races, one of which was in 30 knot winds , which provided
a stiff challenge to other sailors without Worser Bay and Evans bay
experience! There were many DHFs.
Results here. Aaron is the very worthy recipient of the St
John's Rotary Club Scholarship awarded annually to allow a New
Zealand sailor to attend this regatta.
The St Lawrence River venue was the sailing venue for the 1976
Olympics.
Our Web Site get HITS!
We get >2,000 hits a month during
the sailing season. We predict 13,000 - 14,000 hits per year. 83% are from
New Zealand. Our membership is about 200 or about 260 active people, as we
have a "family" membership category. Click on graph to go to the Hit
Monitoring data. The peak hits in April 2004 coincides with WBBC Hosting the
Toyota Optimist Nationals ... the biggest sailing regatta in New Zealand.

20 August: Lion Foundation Youth Yachting Scheme under review.
The Port Nicholson
Yachting Trust has been working through a review of the scheme and
has come up with some ideas of how it might reshape the scheme to
more widely support youth yachting into the future. The idea is to
build upon the existing scheme in order to support clubs with the
coaching of youth sailors in 420s and Lasers as well as in the
senior P Class years and Starling years. Before going any further it
is important to seek some input from sailors and their parents as to
what they think about the proposed ideas.
Here is
Dean Stanley's presentation.
It is a Powerpoint file. Just press the space bar to progress
through it.
19 August: Subscriptions and Boat Storage.
The bad
news is that they are due again but the good news is that they are
unchanged from last season.
Invoices will be posted soon but our
hardworking treasurer (and our two shedmasters) would appreciate
details of boat storage required or being relinguished.
Can you email Bob Shaw at
rwshaw@paradise.net.nz advising boat
name, class, sail no.and whether space is required or will be
vacated. For seniors please indicate whether you wish to be on the
floor ($225) or on a rack ($175). Space is at a premium for both
juniors and seniors (a very good reason to make sure you
do email Bob) and floor space will be allocated to those
that sail regularly.
If you have sold your boat and/or bought
something new let Bob know and we will update the boat register
for this year's Almanac before it goes to print.
Jono Hanns is Just
Back From Japan
Jono was part of a 5 sailor team selected by
Yachting New Zealand to participate in the Japan Junior Sailing
Regatta. Three of the team sailed Optimists (selected on their age
group performance at last years nationals) with the other two
sailing Sandhoppers (a scaled down Laser type boat)
Out of a fleet of 60 Optimists Jono came in10th
and the NZ contingent won the team prize
2 August 2004: Worser Bay OK Dinghies at Worlds in Poole:
A great result for the Worser Bay team; Joe
Porebski 5th (1st in Race 9), Steve McDowell 9th (2nd R7), Paul
Rhodes 10th (3rd R1),
Matt Stechman 11th (3rd R7) and Greg Wilcox
13th.
There is a very full report on the contest and
each day on the www.okdia.org
site, notably day 5 "when the Kiwis seemed to be on their own in
the stronger winds" (12kts!). Other days were dogged with large
windshifts, variable breezes, or no wind at all!
Rumour has it that Worser Bay won the trophy
for the best results by club at the preceding UK Nationals
Wellington and
Worser Bay Sailors at the Etchell Worlds
Paul Verry, Ben Irving, Adam Emiral and Tim
Henderson have just finished the Etchell Worlds in Mooloolaba,
Australia. In their first serious competition in this class,
competing in a fleet of 82 boats with some of the top skippers in
the world (including Denis Connor and Cameron Appleton) just had
to be an awesome experience for these young sailors
